Year Qualified : 1988
Penny completed the Cape Wine Master examinations in 1988 and her research project was “Bordeaux Blends – Fad or Fact? Do South African Cabernet Sauvignon Wines need to be Blended?” In 1991, she went to VinExpo and travelled through Bordeaux, Champagne, the Loire, Cognac, Burgundy and the Rhone.
Penny lectures at the CWA in Durban. She also lectures and does presentations and promotions for The Wine Glass. She has judged wines on SAA twice and Veritas once.
Penny is a member of numerous wine clubs, including the Durban Wine Society, Highway Wine Society, The Wine Bags and PCats.
Her special wine interests are Bordeaux, Italy, Spain and California. She enjoys running and completed the Two Oceans Marathon in 2000. She also enjoys walking and mountain biking. Penny enjoys travelling and has been to England and Europe, where she worked in London and on a Kibbutz.
She has also hitch hiked through South America, North America and Canada. She worked in the States before returning to South Africa via the Far East, stopping in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, Thailand, the Seychelles and Mauritius. Penny has packed fish in Iceland.
